We present the successful recrystallization of Bechgaard salts with the microwire shape using the drop casting method. The samples are deposited on a substrate with previously prepared patterns made by optical lithography. The physical properties of the microwires are shown. The excellent transport properties show that this technique provides a new method for the tuning of the physical properties of molecular conductors and the first step toward applications. The pressure effects of the substrate on the conduction are discussed.

Summary
Introduction
Age-related neurodegenerative diseases represent an increasing public health crisis. In the USA, individuals 85 years of age or older are the fastest growing segment of society, projected to exceed 10 million citizens before 2050. The risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) doubles every five years after age 65, suggesting that the prevalence of dementia will escalate dramatically in the next 40 years.
Major advances in neuroimaging, genetics, molecular biology and neuropathology have begun to refine our understanding of the dementias, providing hope for new therapies. Structural and functional imaging studies now map dementia-related regional and network-level dysfunction in unprecedented detail, and transgenic animals provide testable disease models, bringing new insights into dementia pathogenesis. Genetic studies have identified numerous disease-causing mutations and provide a foothold for understanding the molecular pathology of dementia. Conversely, careful separation of patients with dementia into pathologically homogeneous groupings has accelerated the search for new causative mutations. Accurate prediction of pathology will become even more critical when molecule-specific treatments emerge.
With new discoveries and shifts in opinion, diagnostic frameworks for dementia have evolved rapidly. Formal clinical and pathological diagnostic research criteria for the dementias continue to be revised, with the goal of optimizing clinical–pathological correlations. However, even among patients seen at dementia referral centers, clinical and pathological diagnoses remain discordant in a significant minority of patients. Necessarily, neuropathology remains the gold standard for dementia diagnosis.

In order to study atomic transport in the radiation enhanced diffusion (RED) region, Pd/Co bilayers were intermixed by 80keV Ar+ in the temperature range from 90 K to 700 K. The critical temperature for the onset of RED was found to be ∼ 400 K, and the transported amount of Pd atoms was found to be always larger than that of Co in the RED region. This result cannot be explained by pre-existing models. Thus we have developed a comprehensive model for atomic transport in the RED region including size effect, damage controlled effect, and cohesive energy effect.

Ag-sheathed tapes of Bi–Sr–Ca–Cu–O (BSCCO) and BSCCO–Ag superconducting cores were made by a powder-in-tube technique and subjected to repeated cycles of pressing and heat treatments. These thermomechanical treatments resulted in enhanced texturing and grain growth that improved the critical current density (Jc). Additions of Ag to the BSCCO core further increased texturing and brought an additional improvement in Jc. Strain tolerance of the tapes was evaluated by measuring Jc before and after application of a predetermined level of tensile strain in a uniaxial mode. The fraction of Jc retained after the strain application was higher in the BSCCO–Ag composite tapes than in the monolithic BSCCO. For a 1.2% applied strain, 90% of the initial Jc was retained in the BSCCO–Ag composite tape, compared to only 40% in the monolithic BSCCO tapes. The higher strain tolerance of the BSCCO–Ag tapes may be related to improved mechanical properties (strength, flexibility, and fracture toughness) and grain connectivity due to Ag addition.

The relation between the ion irradiation induced grain growth in bilayer system and the basic parameters involved in ion beam mixing process was studied. TEM micrographs showed that a significant grain growth has been induced by Ar+ irradiation at room temperature. The grain size increases rapidly in low dose region, while it approaches a saturated value in high dose region, and it has close relationship with thermodynamic properties such as cohesive energy ( ΔHc ) and heat of mixing( ΔHm ). The experimental results are in good agreement with the model for the grain growth based on the thermal spike induced atomic migration.
